A huge roach has been landed by Mr. Wood while trout fishing at Carsington Water in Derbyshire.
The fish weighed 4lbs 13oz and would eclipse the current British record if it were verified.
As the fishery is a fly-only trout fishing water, it is thought to have been caught on a fly.
The Carsington Water Fly Fishery Facebook page made the announcement on April 18, 2024.
Exciting day for Mr Wood. Whilst fishing for trout he landed a 4lb 13oz Roach. Beautiful specimen. Could be a record !
We do not yet know whether Mr. Wood will submit a claim or whether there is sufficient ‘evidence’ to support a record claim. The fish also needs to be verified as a true roach rather than a hybrid.
The British Record (rod-caught) Fish Committee record roach stands at 4lbs 4oz, caught by Keith Berry in 2006. 4lbs 4oz 0drms 2006 Keith Berry, Stillwater, Northern Ireland
